A'eo, or kukuluaeʻo (meaning one standing high), Himantopus mexicanus knudseni, an endangered subspecies of the black necked stilt.

Epiphytes growing on a banyan tree in Honolua Bay, Maui, towers above ancient burial grounds also used as inspiration for the film Avatar.

The alae ke‘oke‘o, or Hawaiian coot, Fulica alai, is yet another endangered and endemic species to Hawaii, threatened by habitat loss and the invasive mongoose.

Interestingly there is a collection of non-migrating monarchs, Danaus plexippus, established on the Hawaiian Islands.

Cattle Egret, Bubulcus ibis, stalking through the grasses of Kealia Pond Nature Reserve, Maui.

Ring-necked Pheasant, Phasianus colchicus, spooked out of a foggy Hosmer's Grove evoking a scene as though from a chinese painting.
