Spiders Oh My!

Something I couldn't help getting excited over in Hawaii was the diversity of spiders. So many shapes, sizes and colours! I didn't even have to look. They were just there, waiting to be observed.

Spiny Orb Weaver, Gasteracantha cancriformis, all decked out in ominous red spikes.

Spotted Orb Weaver, Neoscona crucifera, scuttling along its web.

Banana Spider, Argiope aurantia, an invasive species to Hawaii, found across the Pacific. In Guam populations have exploded due to the introduction of the brown tree snake resulting in the extinction or near extinction of any potentially predatory birds species.
